I took Furniture Design during the summer after my first year. The course lasted for a month, where we designed concepts for pieces of furniture to enhance a form of education. I designed for young pre-school age children, educating them spacially and kinetically through play by being a versatile piece of furniture.
My final design was a chair that helps children develop their balance, while also facilitating play.
This paper taught me a great deal about designing for mass production. We factored in processes such as injection and blow moulding, and analysed the cost of production.
